Promoting Youth Resilience Following Stressful Experiences

October 26th at 7pm

Dr. Becker-Haimes will discuss how stressful experiences can impact youth mental health and wellbeing. She will highlight the challenges parents/caregivers and youth may experience following highly stressful experiences and exposure to community violence. Dr. Becker-Haimes will discuss strategies and resources for fostering resilience and coping. A portion of time will be reserved for Q&A and discussion.

Emily M. Becker-Haimes, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Mental Health. She is also the clinical director of the Pediatric Anxiety Treatment Center at Hall Mercer (PATCH) program, which is the only specialty anxiety clinic in Philadelphia dedicated to serving youth in the public mental health system. Dr. Becker-Haimes received her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and her doctoral degree in child clinical psychology from the University of Miami. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She is an implementation scientist and clinical psychologist whose work is dedicated to improving mental health service quality in specialty mental health settings for youth.  She has particular expertise in the implementation of exposure therapy across settings and the application of exposure therapy for youth with complex comorbidities. Dr. Becker-Haimes has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and her work is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF). She has received several national awards for her work, including the Future Directions Launch Award from the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and the Outstanding New Investigator Presentation Award from the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration.
